A Windows RDP (remote desktop) gives you an always-on Windows machine in the cloud you can reach from anywhere. But not all RDP plans are equal. Here's what actually matters when you choose one.
Match the specs to the job
- Light use (a remote desktop, a few apps): 4 vCPU and 6 GB RAM is plenty — our standard RDP plans.
- Heavier workloads (multiple apps, automation, data work): step up to 8 vCPU and 16 GB.
- Always insist on SSD storage and a 1 Gbps port — RDP feels sluggish on slow disks.
Pick the right location
Choose the region closest to you or your users for a responsive session and the right local IP: we offer USA, UK, Netherlands and Canada. For working across regions, a second RDP in another country is useful for testing and access.
Full admin access is essential
You want full administrator rights so you can install any software and configure the machine. Every one of our RDP plans includes full admin access and a dedicated IP.
Secure it on day one
- Change the default administrator password to something long and unique
- Enable Network Level Authentication and keep Windows updated
- Restrict RDP access to your own IP where you can, and consider changing the default port

Legitimate uses
Running Windows-only business software 24/7, automating scheduled tasks, a persistent remote workspace, development and testing, and multi-region access. Prefer Linux? Compare in Linux vs Windows VPS.
